    Cooling system

    Hi

On the defender there is a 3 way thingy just below the header tank. What is it? Does it need to be there? The reason I ask is that it is leaking do I replace it or just put a "T" piece in?

    Could this cause overheating?

    Regards

Dont think you can just have a T piece there because its a T with one extra outlet IE not a T piece. Id like to put a metal one in there to replace the plastic one.

Is it actually the connector, or the hose that is leaking?

Perhaps. I might be thinking of the wrong piece.

I always thought it was a check valve too until I changed mine a few years back and blew through it both ways.....

I can dig it out of the shed and double check.

Apparently, it is designed to remove bubbles of air, from the coolant to the header tank.

Yes, it's definitely a bleed system.
It's common practice to do this when radiators, engines and header tanks are at various heights.
