    td5 boost and egr setup

does anyone know what boost the td5 d2 run? i have a nanocom and it peaks at 1.17bar from wherever it gets its reading from.

second, what is the egr system and why do many people say to block it off? where do i check to see if this has been done already?

    cheers.

Ill talk about the second question.

To see if its reomoved you will need to take the acoustic cover off (three 13mm bolts) and you will either see this (blue circle thing)

or a short piece of pipe in its place.

Read this link to see what it does etc.

Look in the tutorial section of this forum for a thread BlkNight did on how to remove it. EDIT Here it is - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...r-removal.html

do a search for egr blank or egr removal.
im not gonna start that old chesnut again

That's interesting, as mine was 19psi at the turbo before fitting the larger I/C and now its 17psi (according to a cheap gauge). So there's not much flow restriction now between the turbo and the MAP sensor in the inlet manifold. It still has the EGR and ILT valves (although neither operate) so they're not causing detectable restriction at full boost, but perhaps a different story during turbo spool-up.

    Got my Nanocom now.

My boost pressure maxes out at 1.06bar, a bit over 14psi, seems a but low?

I have Tombie's intercooler and a BD enhanced chip.

    Wastegates need adjusting???
Couldnt find anything on RAVE but I messed with mine last nite.
Undid the locknut and adjusted it about 1 nut width to get it to fully close.Untested as yet as the D2 is in the shed under surgery.I read a post here a while ago stating that you need to ensure the wasgate was adjusted to close properly.
I was getting no boost at all(acording to nanocom) until after 2000rpm under light throttle, bear in mind 2 exhaust stud nuts and 1 complete stud were found to be missing and soot says it was leaking.

hopefully a graph will appear below thats a screen shot of nanocom output. showing revs boost and wastegate modulator. to work out actual boost you have to minus ambient pressure from the inlet air pressure i think!

    Thanks

Thumbs up EGR Removal & Boost

I have been running my wastegate adjusted fully closed with the engine off for over a year now.

EGR removal definitely lets the turbo spool up better as the EGR comes in after idle. See some threads on my setup as I have just about zero turbo lag when flooring the pedal OFF IDLE and no turbo lag at all out on the road when I hit it.

Removing the EGR alone will not set your TD5 performance on fire but mixed with other mods it helps a lot.

Are the Nanocoms worth it or should I spend the bit extra and get the "Black Box" unit that does everything on the D2?????

the nanocom does all engine ecu and slabs functions for d2 td5's, and all functions for defender td5s. currently they are still working on d2 body computer functions. hopefully be done in the next 6-8 weeks. this is the one i'm waiting for. then i believe the nanocom will be as full functioning as rovacom.

for around 550-600 i think its worth it, even for the ecu/slabs functions alone.
