It was expensive but I guess that comes with the LR badge.
Interesting story though. I got a replacement (low km, second hand with warranty) transmission up from Ritters and Canberra Motor Works put it in, along with a full service and filter kit, etc.
It went OK but less than a few hundred kilometres later it lost all drive with what sounded like a starving pump. Back to CMW on a tow truck last sunday night.
Pulling the pan off, Ray found that a clutch pack had disintegrated and blocked everything. The theory was that it had been sitting dry for a while.
Ritters put their hand up for a second replacement and worked flat out to have it in Canberra by Tuesday afternoon. Canberra Motor Works then had it installed and serviced by Tuesday evening.
You could look at this whole thing two ways. One way was to get angry and frustrated at breaking down, sitting in tow trucks at night and then bussing everywhere. And I did. However, given that these things happen, the efforts from Ritters and Canberra Motor Works in getting me back on the road were exceptional.
The latest box feels right. Actually, you don't notice it and thats the way I want it. Just doing its job quietly.
I wouldn't be getting an auto gearbox from anyone in Australia except from A&B Automotive in Dandenong south. They are the ZF gurus in Australia.
