    300tdi help

    Hey

    ERRRRRRRRRRRR

    my EGT's are so high and i am running the pump as close to std as i think it was. Every time i move the diaphragm they just get worse! If i floor it from standing start from a set of lights i cant even hit 80Kmh before my EGT's are around 600 deg! I don't have huge amounts of smoke out the rear and On long trips i can't keep 100/110 on long hills when loaded.

    When i have cash I will replace the injectors and get a bigger intercooler but that may be a little way down the road. and in the mean time i don't wont to melt the thing. The IC is clean and it has pretty good air flow hoses are good boost is good @ 15psi. What should a bog stock 300tdi egt's be?

    any ideas?

    Mick

    Hi Mick;

    I've had my EGT up to 685 upstream of Turbo ,I'm told Maximum should be no further that 720 deg , where is your Diphramp position at the moment , eg 09:00 o'clock , 12:00 o'clock etc ?

    My old Tdi stock EGTs were

    95-120 idle
    < 300 around town sub 60 km/h
    < 450 around town above 60 but less than 90 km/h
    < 550 full throttle around town
    < 625 full throttle freeway hill climbs

    after tweaking, much the same except long climbs equated to no loss in speed but continually climbing EGTs - well above and beyond 720.

    The dot is only really a relative marker, not absolute, as the diaphragm can be assembled in any position on the cone - 12o'clock could equate to something else from engine to engine. Provided you know where the dot was when you started, you can return it standard or by eye as there is only 180 degrees of possible adjustment.

    it's set atm with the pin on the flattest part it seems the only position my egts dont rocket up but they still get very high and i can hit 700 if i want too.

    if i start at 12 and get to say 3 then i have great power for around town but can't go up a long hill at more then say about 80kmh

    that's a fair call , I didn't realise that Diaphrams can be assembled on different positions of the Cone ? the ones I've looked at have been the same .. but I would have thought 300tdi Factory VE Bosch Pumps with eccentric cone marker 13H would have the eccentric Cone relative in the same position set to around between 08:00-09:00 which would be the same as others ,obviously not? and that's where mine is at the moment , I do recall ian's instructions that mentions something about the same position before he started tweeking the VE pump.

    gday
    My auto tdi egts are something like the following;
    cruising on flattish roads at 100kph : 360-420
    putting around town: 250-300ish
    Pushing it hard up a long hill on a hot day: can go over 700 realively easily
    Pushing it on a flat road..goes too fast to tell but can get up to 600+
    I havent had the pump tuned to the bigger intercooler though but I think its pretty close to the mark
    hope that is of some use

    Maybe the pump timing needs to be checked.
    I think you advance the timing when upping the fuel and maybe this helps to keep egt's down.
    Give AG diesel a call, they might give you some advice over the phone ??
