    All the winch set ups we have use an external isolator 500amp. The reason being if you are using the solid state solonoid packs, they can stay in the n/c position or on if you like when water gets through the seals. Thats the reason for an external isolator. Quicker than popping the bonnet and trying to disconnect before the winch o/loads


    Go to Jaycar electronics, you'll be surprised how well priced a 500amp keylock isolator is.

    I used 70 sq mm for my 10,000 Warn winch with no problems. I think 50sq mm (the next size down) is a bit light. You can get this from any welding supplier or most auto electricians - if you have the exact length, get them to put on the lugs as well.
