    Td5 Turbo noise

My 2002 D2 Td5 is making a whistling noise under moderate load 2500-3000rpm. The service guy says its the wastegate on the turbo which means a replacement turbo!

Is this a serviceable item if I go to a specialist shop or simply shop for a good used item.

    thanks

probably more like broken manifold studs?

how many k's and does it do it all the time?

cant see how it would be the wastegate? as that just dumps excess exhaust gas?

sure someone will be along witha better answer, but you may want to search for the manifold stud info on here..

    Thanks

    turbo noise

    Could be studs!

I`d also check for any leaks at the turbo output pipe flexible elbow.

thanks, guys. have done a quick search and found some good info on the manifold studs so will have a look at those.

Yes, it makes the noise all the time and always as I am accelerating. I have an auto and the noise seems to stop as the auto changes gear and the revs drop.

It's a 2002 Td5 with approx 115k. Has a Tombraider chip and larger intercooler since about 75k with no noise until quite recently.

the TD5 turbo is a quiet unit... and hard to get squealing! i was wondering whether mine was working at all.. not like the mack metroliner we have been playing with at work.. that turbo snorts and whistles like hell!

    Thanks

Is that drilling out the holes in the manifold to 8mm?

i think its elongating them.. or to 10mm and increase the stud size to 10mm oh and chopping out the web between the pipes..

    Thanks
