    Question CDL switch

    Hi all,
my CDL switch has obviously passed its sell-by date and is not doing what it is supposed to do. Does anyone here know the location of the item in question and how to get best at it? I tried from underneath and couldn“t locate it at all. How easy is it to pull off? Any suggestions? The vehicle in question is a manual 1995 Disco, btw.

    Thanks for all information!
    Cheers
    Johannes

hi jojo, i presume you mean switch that turns the little light on that tells you you're in 4wd ctr diff locked.
it's up on the top of the right side of the transfer case, above where the front drive shaft comes out, but inboard from there - you will need a mirror on a stick and you should be able to see it, two wires, and the thread goes into the case, and has a lock nut on it so you can set the switch to the right height when setting it.
it is mounted from the top vertically, hidden by mud and stuff.
happy hunting - and changing it!!

The switch is screwed into the front output housing a few inches back from the cdl spigot on the same side as the spigot and on the same level. If that makes sense

You might want to just clarify... Some refer to CDL as Central Door Locking where as others use Centre Diff Lock.

does the 95' use a vacum activated switch?
If it does check the tubes/pipes whatever they are called haven't just popped loose from the switch/vacum thingy.

It might also just be your bulb?

Folks, if you are talking about the diff lock switch then do not throw it away just yet. Basically copper poles pressed onto an L shaped taps for the two wire connection. The press on part becomes loose against the inner pole of the switch and you loose conectivity. By way of example an early D2 draws approx 190ma via the switch so enought to foul a crappy connection. The fix for a dud switch is to clean it up first, check if the tabs are loose and hit it with solder on both sides (not perfect but a good wet joint will fix for a very long time) and then test with the multi and the switch should come good again. I could chare you 300 dollars for the repair if this makes you feel warm and fuzzy however and may even buy a new switch. Sorry just being silly. Remember to follow the instructions for setting the depth as some are known to come loose. Heaps of pics on CDL location and has not changed from 1991 to 2000, after that may be some differences.

Well then, I have been working my way to the switch and, lo and behold, located it. Checked the connectors, there is adequate voltage arriving but no output... Now, how do I remove the thing??? There is a locknut, too. What size is the nut of the switch and the locknut? I tried with my (metric) spanners. Size 15 is too tight, size 16 too wide. Which one fits inbetween??? Any suggestions??? Thanks!
