Yep, mine just went BANG!

The D-R shifting can also be caused by the AC drain leaking on to the and causing it to stiffen up.

After what I've been through my advise is - Replace It ASAP!

DON'T drive it.

Even at 20kmh a LOT of damage can occur.

I have confiscated one vehicle and made the customer rent a car rather than let them drive it 55km home it was that bad.

It is NOT worth the risk it'll cost 5 times as much to repair if it breaks.

What do you drive?

Freelander, Defender, D1, D2, Rangie Classic, P38A, Holden, Falcon, etc? Your post doesn't contain enough info to give advice.

However, I think that ANY noise like that from under a vehicle, especially IF it is a D2, should be treated with caution.... seeing those pics from Dm_td5

Just realised that it's unlikely to be a Defender (unless it's Edd's) - it has an auto.

My County used to clunk (rear A-frame balljoint) - my 4.6 Classic used to clunk (transmission), my '83 RR with the LT95 manual was the worst on clunking (shunting from lots of lash in the driveline).

If it's a D2, then one would certainly be worried about the DC joint.

Just drop the front shaft and lock the centre diff, unless its 2002 D2
