inspecting the transfer case in a d2 td5.

Its like your standard socket extension bar, but it lets you move the bar up/down and side to side etc, while the socket stays fixed in its location (bars tend to move 15 degrees)

In this case though, you dont fit a socket, you just use the drive at the end of the bar that a socket normally goes onto.

This is what works for me..., I've just crawled under the Disco and checked it and took pics while there.

Crack the grub screw with a 1/2" breaker bar.

then undo the screw with a ratchet + ext loosely in the hole.

as long as the rain stays away tomorrow(which overall i dont want it too) that and the diffs will see the disco swimming in fresh fluid throughout.

also my front diff has a wierd topup/inspection hole plug. its round and just has a massive flat head screwdriver sort of notch in it. what tool would work for this. no screwdriver is any where near large enough.

Try a cold chisel when the hex rounds off as it does......there are brass ones which are a lot better

the slotted diff plugs are the brass replacements for the standard plastic ones - which everyone should get if they haven't already. I find that the side of an adjustable wrench of suitable thickness works fine to undo it.
