Thanks for the replies. I just had a looksey and its leaking from the end tanks.:(
I will go to suttons on monday and see if they can pressure test it to see how much it can handle. (its a replacement radiator/aftermarket, more than 2 years old)
I think the corrigations have been its undoing.:mad:
It may be sometime before I can reply to let you know how it turns out.

The rad tank leakage is pretty common, and it is likely that the roads didn't help. In view of the labour involved in removing to repair, it is more cost effective to replace it.:o

I'm guessing Zute got it sorted at Suttons Motors as I saw his D2 at Ormiston Gorge, along the West MacDonnell Ranges yesterday - did not meet him, just saw his car in the carpark :D

I am also an X-Alice person. Lived there for 8 years. Miss it when you start talking about the places but could not give up the water again.
It's good if he got it sorted easily. Suttons are a good outfit.

Made it to Ayers Rock, leaking just a little when dead cold. checking it 3 times a day. But seems like it will make it home. (fingers crossed).

Hi all, Just thought I'd finish up this tread.
Made it back to Canberra on Sunday. Looks like the culprit was the new Thermostat that I fitted just before the trip away. Just go's to show if it ain't broken don't fix it. I now have the old one in and it seems at this stage to be working.
At Coober pedy I pored in some stop leak. And this seems to have fixed the Radiator leak. I also think the radiator was leaking because the heat in the bottom 4 rows, that is part of the fuel cooler, and the cold main part of the radiator, could not cope with the difference.
Because the thermo was not opening, no coolant was flowing through the main tank. All the cooling was taking place through the heater core, the fuel cooler and the engine oil. Outside air temps were low (12deg C or lower), and mostly we were taking it easy. Who said these motors cant take it.
The needle on the temp gauge was only rising about 3 to 4 mm, that's when the air conditioner would cut out. Also power would be cut back by the ECU.
At 100km/h on Highways, was when things would get too hot. A slight hill would do it, Turning the heater up full would bring it back, So I think this ruled out a Head gasket.
I could not get into Suttons at Alice Springs, as they were bookout for a week.
I'd like to thank Keith Maskell for all his help in trying to nut out the problem. He suspected the Thermo.
And thanks to, LandyAndy, djaml, dm td5 and Trex. Sorry to miss LRHybrid100 at Ormiston gorge.
I'll still need to replace the radiator at some stage, but I might look at a custom one, with a seperate fuel cooler. More on that if it happens.:p
