I dont know the exact power loss figure off the top of my head but the bosch dyno i used at United Fuel Injection here in perth calculates drivetrain power loss based on deceleration rate of the rollers once power transfer has stopped. It's not an exact figure but a good indication.Quote:

Asked Ward about the reason that Cooper's use 2nd in an auto for dyno tuning the vehicle. The answer was that it spins up to speed quicker and there is no risk of the auto changing back to 2nd from 3rd (1:1) or into 4th (O/D) during the tune.
Getting the speed is also the reason they use 3rd in a manual gearbox.
As was suggested earlier, it makes no difference for the tune which gear it is in only important if you want maximum torque in top.

Hey guys, I got my current RRC dyno'd at Graemes and was told it was done in third, but when I anilised it myself I assumed the 3 was a mistake.
Here is the graph, I just want to know if my assumption that this was done in second gear and not third as I was told is correct or not. Is there anything on this graph that could make one more liekly than another.
note: I calculated them revs myself and driving the car it feels as if the power is peaking at around 4000rpm not 5500 as I have calculated, hence why I am thinking it may not have been second.

Philip, After seeing your new graph I am definately doin the thor injection sooner rather than later, it is amazing how flat your power curve is.

Did they really have your vehicle exceeding 5,500 RPM?
I cannot for the life of me see why they would need to do that, other than seeing if it will explode :eek:

Unfortunately CNJ did not do a before, graph.
However he did tell me it was running very rich and started at 68kw.
What I find interesting is the Torque band. 3,500 rpm is the highest although the torque curve is quite flat, and dies after 4,000 rpm.
Power, is high at 4,500, but the "grunt" is going.
I drove it around today and I'm still stocked at the ease it NOW gets up hills. :D
This motor is stock, only after market is exhaust and Snorkel.

Are these all being done on 4 wheel dyno machines or rear wheel with the fronts lifted. The mob that tune my rangie only use the rear wheel dyno with the fronts lifted but centre diff locked.
Unfortunately don't have the print out from when the motor was rebuilt but do know the result.
So how do you convert hp to kw, then with the torque from ft/pd to what ever the current measure is?
