If its a D1 the rear tail lights sit at number plate level

If its D2 the rear tail lights sit higher up near the base of the rear window
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Perhaps my previous post was a tad presumptuous and could be misconstruded as being rude.

For this I apologise (yes thats the correct spelling of the word folks). I hope I am wrong but from the start of this thread and previous postings it appears that the poster is considering an attempt at disguising a cheap 1999 model D2 for the 2003 updated D2a to a prospective buyer in the future. To me this is morally wrong, as stated before I hope I am wrong with my assumption.

    For the record, a 99 with a 4l V8, is a D2.

The odometer is apparently tamper proof due to the mileage being stored in more than one spot, an attempt to fool the system results in errors being recorded, from memory the odometer reading can be recalled on a Testbook.

Yes headlights, tailights, indicators bumpers and the wiring loom can be modified so the vehicle appears to look like a younger updated model, then the little interior differences will still be a tell tale sign of the cars age. As would the registration details of the vehicle.

Long gone are the days when a VB commodore goes into a backyard and a VH commodore re-appears 5 hrs later.

Why the heck anyone in their right mind would want to dispose of a D2 with all the fruit and get a SWB Maverick is beyond reason, it may not be as tough as a Nissan (body wise), but with the HDC, TC, ACE, Airbags rear why would you want to ? Chuck some decent rubber on it, replace the missing compressor (located on the pass side chassis rail near the mid crossmember).

It has the ability to crap all over a Nissan, in comfort and style.

I think the gift horse is getting a good bit of root canal work, some crowns and possibly a couple of fillings done too (let alone being looked in the mouth) if a 99 D2 ES with 67,000km on it is being bought for $6k....

those 03,04 lights dont just look better.........they actually produce a lot more light than the previous model

nothing a good set of spotlights would not fix

ive got a new 04 bumper...anyone want it....would match the new headlights

it would be almost impossible to make a d2 change to a d2a.apart from compliance plates other differences etc, nearly every plastic part has a datecode stamped in to it,etc ,etc

    cheers

off topic, but geez, my D2 has brilliant standard lights. low and high beams. ive come from the aussie holden and fords (my ba had especially excellent high beams) and the D2 is right up there. the D2a must be close to melting the reflector posts.

Bit off topic but I wonder if it's possible to rewire my 1969 house to look like a 2003 house then I could sell it for double and by a townhouse.

if i put the new lighst on i will keep it, which i am leaning to.
I do not plan to change any thing else to the newer 03 stuff.
My attentions were never to do it up and flog it off as a 03 model.

If i was going to get rid of it i would just detail it and fix a few small things then sell or swap fro mav or patrol. as i could get a more serious and robust 4wd.

how ever the gf as me pretty much convinced to keep the disco as its auto so she can drive it and as she has a kid it would be easyier to clean.

Its good to know that the km can't be changed.

Also i might removed the airbags as the compressor is missing and the air bags have been down to almost flat for a while now (so previous owner could park it under house) so im thinking of getting 2" HD lift kit.

    Things needed wanted for disco
    New lights
    electric winch (9000lb or 12000lb)
lift 2' HD (what size can u go leagally in QLD)
    side steps
33" tread (what size can u go leagally in qld)
    Alpine x100 ipod head unit
    DVD head rest system
