Perhaps my previous post was a tad presumptuous and could be misconstruded as being rude.
For this I apologise (yes thats the correct spelling of the word folks). I hope I am wrong but from the start of this thread and previous postings it appears that the poster is considering an attempt at disguising a cheap 1999 model D2 for the 2003 updated D2a to a prospective buyer in the future. To me this is morally wrong, as stated before I hope I am wrong with my assumption.
For the record, a 99 with a 4l V8, is a D2.
The odometer is apparently tamper proof due to the mileage being stored in more than one spot, an attempt to fool the system results in errors being recorded, from memory the odometer reading can be recalled on a Testbook.
Yes headlights, tailights, indicators bumpers and the wiring loom can be modified so the vehicle appears to look like a younger updated model, then the little interior differences will still be a tell tale sign of the cars age. As would the registration details of the vehicle.
Long gone are the days when a VB commodore goes into a backyard and a VH commodore re-appears 5 hrs later.
Why the heck anyone in their right mind would want to dispose of a D2 with all the fruit and get a SWB Maverick is beyond reason, it may not be as tough as a Nissan (body wise), but with the HDC, TC, ACE, Airbags rear why would you want to ? Chuck some decent rubber on it, replace the missing compressor (located on the pass side chassis rail near the mid crossmember).
It has the ability to crap all over a Nissan, in comfort and style.
