I have that plus there is a pipe just underneath which I couldn't move. This is what also stopped me from getting the tensioner on. I was only able to get one hand on an angle from behind and only my fingers from the side.
Tombie & Phil :D, I'd love to see whether you could have gotten your mits onto this cos' the reason I wanted to get it so tight was because this is where the 3.5 ltrs of missing oil has apparently leaked out!
Yep, I remembered smeared the oil seal before putting it on too:)

Auto barn sells these for under 10 dollars. They get into the space (with a few seconds of fiddling) , and unscrew them with ease.
not enough room in the D2 engine bay for it, there is heaps of room in the 110 engine bay by comparison
Originally I cut down the handle on a elcheapo oil filter wrench went in next to the firewall and unscrewed it that way, the next time I used the rope trick, which I have successfully used ever since.
whats in the way in a disco?
for my td5 disco i just hack-sawed a 4 inch section off the metal band style oil filter tool, directly opposite the handle. this has worked great for me.
Thanks for the tip Simon.
Aaron, I'll go check that out today too. Failing all this, it's pants off and belt on!:D
