Going to work heard some loud tappet noise about a 100m from home, turned around & headed home. On inspection found 4,5& 8 tappet rockers broken & bent rods. I have turned her over by hand without locking up. Any idea's on whats happened (timing belt). Any help on best place for parts or tips.
Only owned the old girl about 4 months. Not a happy camper.

Help Mick
Itwill turn over but will not start, you could hear somming in the top end before I turn it off. Only had it a few months was just about to change it.
On on my way to work now (12hrs) catch you tommrow.
Cheers Mick
Bent push rods and broken rocker arms usually occur when the timing belt brakes. Fortunately it normally does not damage other internals.
Read the 2nd and 3rd lines/questions in rangieman's post - you response was not to the question asked.
Sorry had one foot out the door when I replied. Yes they do move when turned over. Do I have to remove the head or just replace pins & rocker arms,
(motor was running fine before this), whats the best way to retime when new belt is installed.
Thankyou for your help Mick.
Valves hit pistons dead square on, I have never had to replace any. I would replace ALL the rocker arms, and all the pushrods. Retiming engine is easy, if you get a copy of the RAVE disc from 'Daves interesting things' shop here on this site, it will explain it all

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Anyone know a good place the the parts.
Thanks again Mick
Mate thats an easy fix there is a website that you can buy parts over the internet and they are cheap too.
I will try and find it and post it for you.
Just buy the rockers and post that you need and the shaft that runs in the centre of all of it and she'll be sweet again.
Yes it did happen to me and that what was all that I needed no damage else where.
PM me if you need any other info or email : ralphdonise11@hotmail.com
Yep it will be the belt. You can thank that guy up above that you got home.Mine she stayed put. Needed a flatbed to the mech. Easy to fix though if you can get one bolt off easily..if not get the shotgun.
Cheers
