Yeah. Agreed. A nice even coat both sides of the gasket and don't squish the stuff out by over tightening.

As said before .... It gets everywhere .... Just too messy and can cause other problems

Never had a problem with the Aviation stuff (Non hardening) ... But I always combine it with gaskets

But having said all that ... "Horse's for Courses" is my moto here

    Sounds interesting.

Can you please give me a little more info. on this? I'm a jaded old man when it comes to sealants and stuff. Tried heaps, don't understand why we can't just have one product that does it all (viagara for example).

hylomar #4 is your do it all gasket goop...

it will seal a joint thats nearly perfect without a gasket.
painted onto a paper gasket it will seal up a joint with minor imperfections
soaked into a thicker card or cork gasket it will seal up a joint with fairly major imperfections...

    but...

    good luck getting it apart...

hylomar #3 (also known as aviation formagasket and now as loctite #3) is similar stuff but it never "sets" so getting it apart is alot easier. it comes in a small bottle about the size of 2 filmcansiters one on top of the other and has a small brush so you can paint it onto gaskets and joints... it also has the advantage of being water soluable before it cures which is also a disadvantage if you dont let it cue when you use it on your cooling system...

this is the stuff thats holding fozzys cooling system together right now...

    thats it....

paint a little onto a piece of card and if it turns to a flakey dried paint consistancy its #4 if it stays tacky its #3

it should look sort of like the way I make my coffee after ive been awake for more than 30 hours.

when its fresh it should have the consitancy of cold honey
