That's a damn good guess!
As for specifically when to do it, you're on borrowed time as of....... now!
Hi Guys , My disco now has done 248000 K's and just wondering when i should start looking at changing the timing belt . I have no record of when it was changed but can see that it has been done before . I'm guessing soon ? thanks .

if you work on 80k per timing belt than you are due.....must agree you are on borrowed time if you don't know the history
Thanks guys . Would you advise getting the complete kit or just the belt ?
Kit number STC4096 is the belt, lipped and upgraded crank gear, idler, tensioner, new studs and locknut, and gasket. You will need an ERR4575,(Front crank seal) and a Cam seal,(Can't rmember that number now...) and always pays to replace the O ring behind the crank gear too, as these don't come with the kit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Also, if yours is LATE 97 or any 1998, then it may have the steel backed labrinth type outer seal behind the balancer in the front cover. If so, then it will need to be removed and a rubber type thinner early seal fitted as the new one piece crank gears are thicker than the spotwelded ones, and will bind up on the steel one.

Yes it is the minor kit, you would only do the belt. Not even sure if I would bother replacing the cam/crank seals at this point. They don't come with the kit anyway.
I recently did the minor kit at 200,000 (previously done minor kit at ~100,000), and everything, including the belt was in perfect condition.

I have had the minor kit fitted previously and was only going to get the parts that need replacing but if you buy them separately its actually more expensive than buying the full minor kit. If someone can post up the serial numbers for the seals i'll see if my old man has them on the shelf for me.

If you only want the belt, go to a belting supply place, here in NSW it is CBC I think
The belts are made by Dayco?? and are a stock item , should cost about 35-40$
Buy from a Landrover agent, cost 100 or so , and you get the same Dayco belt in a Landrover bag
