BUT, TWO batteries, bought at different times, that both read 12.5 volts on the multi??????????
    Changed starter - no change
New positive lead to starter - no change
New negative lead attached to aircon mount bracket - no change
    swapped batteries - no change
YET when I hook up the jumper pack, or leads to another vehicle, turns at 100 miles an hour.
    I'm at a loss guys..............

So am I..... generally you look at all your connections first be it pos or neg connections. Strange that a booster will get it but a different battery wont......
I presume you cleaned your batt terminals, but this doesnt gel with the circumstances as per my above point.....
Even a dodgy ignition switch comes up against the same wall....... AAARRRGGHHH!!!!!!!

Unless it IS your battery terminal connection coz the jumper clamps would be attached to your terminal CLAMPS not you lead battery terminals...???????????

Sometimes it can be staring you in the face

Where ever your hooking up the jump battery // That will be the area of problem
Try cleaning the wire connection to those clamps or clean the terminal clamps

    Thanks guys.
I decided I had to figure this out today.
I took the tiny little battery from the Honda Civic and stuck it in there.
Turned it over like a truck battery
So it looks like both my big batteries are knackered. What I can't gigure is why they're both reading 12.5 volts
Oh well, I bought a new battery today so should be problem solved.

12.5 volts at rest is fine, with weak plates and/ or a cell problem it would probably drop below 9volts during cranking, that IS a problem. It is a good way to load test a battery, measure the voltage while cranking.
