Hi folks, 2 questions.
1/ If an ECU has been upgraded, will there be any identifying markings, stickers, etc?
I was wondering if there is any way to tell if a a mod had been done for the TD5 Disco ECU.
2/ Would a saving of $150 be worth the effort buying a second hand unit from a wrecked TD5 or would I be best getting the ECU specific for mine?
Thanks
As Phil says its not easy. If you have an early D2 and it has a late part number ecu (NNN0000120 from memory) it may have been changed, but not necessarily chipped, but to tell from the outside wont be easy.
Other things may point to it, such as if it has had the EGR removed, or a larger intercooler fitted?
Driving it should be the easiest was of telling. Does it feel quicker than you would expect it to be?
If you can get a spare ecu for $150 I would buy it just as a spare.
Rgds
Pete
Thanks ,
No nothing wrong with my ECU.
I was offerred an apparent mod. ECU from a wrecked TD5 for $500. saving roughly $150 on getting one from TRS
I cant drive it to see.
No. There is no EGR mod or intercooler mod either.
Seems to me from the replies that maybe I should just get my ECU modded rather than take a punt the unknown.
Thanks

An early non flashable ECU (MSB.....Part number) will have to be prised open to solder a chip holder to the circuit board. These things are hard to open up without leaving marks around the edges...
A NNN prefix flashable one can't be determined unless you drive it really.
I put one of my 'High output' stickers on the ECU, or mark all the ones i have had done, but not all do this.
