I am going to be fabricating some new floor panels and transmission cover for the series 3, what would be the grade of aluminium to use? probably dose not matter too much but it is worth asking

ha ha, good idea, might have some lying around

but really i think it would be a bit too thick for the folding i will need to do. 1.5mm is about what i need.

I made the floor panels in the IIA from 2.5mm chequer plate.

If you want flat sheet, almost anything will do but marine grade is probably best (5xxx series - 5051/5053/5083/5086)

I used a steet sign for the cover of my fridge / draw system and it bent well to 90deg. That's on a bender though, not a bench and a mallet.

Brisbane City Council have their own road signs section but also use contractors. The contractors do not take away and return damaged signs as this is the job of the coucil's clreansing sections to pick up and return to the road signs section. Sometimes this could take months leaving a window of opportunity for scavengers like me. Very handy stuff but a fair bugger to get the sign material off.
