I will add my support for drivesafe's isolator.
I also use and highly recommend the 2 pin plug that harlie has. You may need to cut the ciggy lighter socket of the waeco cable, but those 2 pin plugs are far better.
You can get the mating 2 pin socket with a similar connection to the lead as for the socket. Or sockets that mount on a bulkhead.
Anderson plugs are better still, but not necessary for what you want.
There is a definite need for a suitable plug and socket system for 12 volt use in this area.
I personally like the Anderson 30 amp PowerPoles.
These connectors are very small compered to other devices, they have a continuos current rating of 30 amp while other devices are only 10 or at best 20 amps.

The only problem with them and I consider it a major draw back, is that they are not available in a two pin flush mount arrangement.
Strangely they are available in a 4 pin flush mount set up, which is not much use for what we are all looking for.

The other plug & socket worth looking at is the Engel one, the end screws off the cigarette lighter plug & then it will plug in to their own socket using a screw collar to hold it in.
It is the only plug that I have used that hasn't vibrated out in the Outback.
