So phil, If you don't get oversize pistons( like I understand), can you still bore or not ?
Tomorrow(Monday) we meet with the engineers.... can't wait !
Apart from putting the blame were it belongs, what do I now have to do to get my engine looking like a proper td5 again.
if you cant get OS pistons and rings and the bore size is out of tollerance for the std pistons, then no, its a new block, motor job. if OS pistons are available then its a simple bore and hone (properly)Quote:

you cant grind the crank. (and going by the state of your bearing shells yours will want it)
your not supposed to rebore it (you can get an oversize piston for it but its not genuine)
the cam bearings are part of the head and will want working on (given the state of your big ends the cam bearings will have copped the same abuse.
your injector plunger pads (the bit the cam acutates) are likely to be scored and should be replaced)
ditto for the rockers.
and thats just by the pictures....
If you desperately wanted that engine new Id charge the better part of $1k just to clean, measure and get the block and head setup ready for new internals and that would be Up front before I even took it off the counter and to the workbenches. There would be no guarentee that I could salvage that block to spec.
If you wanted to go off spec but functional depending on what I could save and how far off the book you were willing to let me go (the further from the book the less warrenty Id offer but youd get a potential risk assesment and mitigation instructiosn prior to me even taking it from the measuring station to the build bay) the price could go anywhere from an additional $2k to more than just buying a new one.
My blind, lets throw a number, WAG price is urmmm $7k.

I'm still waiting for the lab result on the oil. The engineers had a look and from what I gather, the whole lot was re-sleeved and honed. Std piston and rings went in. They also looked at the piston and rings and concluded that it was all caused by overfeuling !! And with the engine not bedding yet, it caused even more blow-by and contaminating the oil and glazing.
I've now finished a timeline.
I'm now just going to have them measure up, then re-hone, cleanup, new bearings and close up. If it doesn't last I'll chuck a V8 in - there's plenty around here with the high petrol prices.
I will dyno test another td5 with my ecu just to make sure.
