    Question Rochester quadrajet carb on a L.R 3.5 V8

Hi i got a L.R 3.5 V8 i want to put on gas.I've done some research, and a Holly is the way to go.But i found a GM Rochester quadrajet on ebay.I know that the L.R engine was built by GM so would this carby fit and would a gen 2 gas system or something similar fit? I dont know the carb. number yet. I will try to find out.Thankful for any info. Pat

Whilst I have a 350 Chev in my Landie, the combination of a quadrajet & LPG mixer sitting on top work just fine. I had to put a bonnet bump in though.
Most on this forum will bag hollies, I'm one of em.

Suggest you do a search on Quaddies to see what size engine they suit, 3.5 might be too small.
You will also need an edelbrock manifold to suit, there have been some crop up on ebay recently.

The quadrajet will work fine on a 3.5, until you open the secondaries They used to pour fuel into my 308 WB ute like Niagara falls, but didn't it make a sweet induction note and make the rear end step out

I would try and obtain a 4.2 holden V8 commodore(blue motor) Q-jet, as it's metering needles will be reasonably close to what a 3.5(Or ideally a 3.9) will require. With a bigger bore exhaust and some aggressive ignition timing, it should go well

You will need a manifold to suit a Spread bore application for these carbs.

Edelbrock make a spread bore dual plane manifold to suit the little V8. Q-jets have small primary throats and very large secondary throats. The opening of the secondaries is by mechanical linkage from a vacuum diaphragm. This can be adjusted to change the rpm at which the secondaries open. On a small engine like this, the secondaries are not really needed except on the higher end of the rpm scale. Trial and error, and road test until you get the effect you like. Q-jets have a nominal flow capacity of 803cfm in the earlier models and around 850cfm in the later ones. There are USA after-market specialists who can supply carbs and kits to increase the flow capacity. The plenum divider in the Edelbrock dual plane manifold can be reduced in height with a die grinder to give better high end performance but at the expense of low speed performance. The choice is yours. This combination of carb. and manifold is an excellent choice for almost any engine much over 3 litres. A q-jet with all four open has a larger venturi area than 3 x 2" SU's.

Any auto shop can order them in, they should be listed in the catalogue. From memory are about $400 but are a square bore which means you need an adaptor ($40). Next time I go downstairs I can get the part number for you but any decent auto parts supplier should have the catalogue.

If people looked into how to set up holleys the correct way, they would find that they work fine in the bush.

A quad will be fine, but depending on the application the secondaries may need jetting down.
A 465 Holley is in the same boat and is not a bad carby, but will need specific jetting for your application.
