    castor corection

I bought my county unregisted and have been working on it for a couple of months now, it's nearly ready for road worthy any way I went for a drive in it and the steering is very twitchy and the car sways side to side and feels like it's pulling the car with it. the car seem's to have had a spring lift i believe to be about 2" (130mm from bump stop to the axle) (not sure what standed is) I have removed the sway bar as well but I had a disco lifted 2" and no sways front and rear and it behaved well, I would like to hear from any one who has experiance with lifted defenders and any castor problems, I think some of the swaying is coming from lake of travel in the shocks, who ever did the lift didn't change shocks and they are at close to full bar 10mm of travel if there is no or close to no oil over the top of the shockie piston there wouldn't be any damper action is this correct.

No need to worry about caster correction at 2" lift, i would say the shocks are the problem, we arn't running any sway bars on our county and it doesn't sway much at all (it's got near new bilstein shocks), so if they are on the way out i'd replace them with some more suitable items

    1) Bump stop clearance up to 3.5”; 2.6 degrees caster bushes may be required to increase steering stability and vagueness.

    2) Bump stop clearance above 3.5”, It is recommended the swivels be modified to correct the caster.

The above I found on Lrautomotive web site under modifying tips

my bump stop clearance is 130mm (a shade over 5"). so it needs to have swivels or arms corrected, what is standard clearance.

what have you done about correcting your castor, what springs and shocks you running sounds like a high lift, if set up correctly you shouldn't have to extend bump stops that just decreases your up travel if you mod the shock mounts you would be better of

I think When the vehicle is released from the factory it has on average 2 1/2 “ front bump stop clearance and 3 degrees of caster , i may be wrong thou.

Twitchy steering could also be caused by incorrect toe settings. Check that you have about 2mm toe out on the front axle.
