    Pat,
I was only talking to a Defender owner down here last week that has Diesel Gas on his TD5 Defender and he reckons the power improvement is huge and the economy gains good. Has given me some food for thought.
    Cheers

Compared to the torque figures below

    1998 Land Rover Defender
    Station Wagon

    300Tdi – 2.5l Intercooled turbo diesel
    5 Speed Manual
    119,000km when fitted
    Average fuel consumption 10.7 l/100k

    Standard Power: (red line)
    66hp @ 3350rpm
    620lbft @ 2300rpm

    DieselGas Power: (green line)
    88.9hp @ 3600rpm (+34%)
    930lbft @ 2450rpm (+50%)
Looks quite straightforward to me - PAT's test must have taken gearing into account.

e.g. assuming both tests were done in 4th - if you multiply PAT's values by 1.4 (t-case) and 3.54 (diff), then you get 619.5 (only 0.5 lbft difference!) and 743.4.

as I mentioned on the other thread, if going with LPG in a diesel I'd halve oil change intervals, even when using 'premium' synthetic lubes if the couple of oil tests I've seen are anything to go by.

Nitration (and sulphation and oxidation) were too damned high for my liking.
    It was killing the oil.

Isuzurover going by your maths your onto it.I like everyone else was a bit funny about the amount as it wouldn't pull the skin off burnt milk but taking the gearing into account you've got it.Rick I also know were your coming from but I got onto the D/gas after one of our heavy plant mechanics worked on haul trucks at Karratha and they all run D/gas and they all have had no drama's at all,as far as oil samples go my engine is too old to worry about it,when it hits half a million I was going to give it a birthday anyway. Thanks Pat,

The figures are very impressive and very interesting, but I am not sure what you mean by "you don't notice the extra power". From 65 to 77 HP is an 18.5% improvement - I would have thought that would be ENORMOUSLY evident.

In the days of hotting up the ol' FC Holden, getting an extra 18.5% power made you king of the kids - can't see why it would be different in a Land Rover. Assuming you are using your whole 65HP to hold a constant speed up a hill, surely an extra 12 horsepower would be just wonderful?

I dunno, it is all a bit complicated.

    Cheers all,

    Paul

Paul 18.5% does sound like alot but we are talking about a 2.2t vehicle, the way the engine revs up is the big one.I bought a EGT gauge the other day so after that is fitted I'm going to wind the fuel stop screw in abit and see what happens.Did you get your system removed?. Pat

    Hi Pat,

Yes, I did have the system removed after the installer agreed to a refund. However, now he is refusing the refund.....I think I have been suckered, because now I can't prove it doesn't work. So, it is off to court we go.

I am reasonably hopeful of winning because he is not a licensed gas fitter and shouldn't have done the job in the first place. His father is a licensed fitter but he was overseas at the time so the son did the job, and fitted a post-dated compliance plate.

I am not sure, but I suspect this is awful unlawful!

I will let you know what happens. Meanwhile, enjoy yours! I am glad you are happy - and a bit envious!!

    Cheers,

    Paul

I've got a few km's over the 1/2 ton mark at the moment - and my old girl is still going great. Personally I wouldn't rush into doing anything, UNLESS you're not confident in the old girl.

This thread has been interesting too. Well done.

    Cheers
    Chris
