Winch power

Main one in my opinion. I have done loads of winching with mine and never had it drop the voltage so much the engine stops.

if you are going to loads of serious winching, run 2 batteries, but just connect them together with battery cable and dont bother with a fancy split charging system.

Obviously its going to be different entirely if you are running fridges and the like, and need the clever charging facility.

I know plenty of people who have had no problems winching off of the main battery on a TD5 although they generally dont use it for winchathons.

If the main battery is your only cranking battery then its your only shot a winch will kill a deep cycle battery.

The winch seems to die before this happens.

connect the winch to the main. Much safer bet.

If you flatten the battery and have an aux as well, simply link the two batteries together and start.

Best winching practice for life of winch / battery (where possible) is...

30 seconds on... 30 seconds off....

I use this method successfully in all recoveries.

Gives winch time to cool...
Rests battery and alternator... (Doesnt charge in this time, just rests it)

Remember, theres no point rushing a *Safe* recovery...
