    Centre diff lock indicator light

The aforementioned indicator light has been a bit dicky for a while and now refuses to illuminate when I know it should. Thats not so bad cos' I know that the diff isn't locked when I get bogged! The main drama for me is that I do not know when it disengages or not. I have a suspicion that it is not disengaging as it should - jacked up both ends and could not rotate the corresponding driveline. Anyone encountered similar faults.

I am interested in this issue as well; my diff lock indicator light is not coming on either, and recently, while stuck in a bit of a hole thinking that the diff lock was engaged, I THINK only one wheel would turn on occasion.

One thing I should mention is that it is a 2003 Defender 130

    The switch is cheap quality.

It screws into the top of the front drive extension housing. It should be adjust no further down than necessary to close the contacts when the diff is locked.

If it is screwed down a whisker too far, or if the plunger is sticky, it will prevent the diff from locking. It should not prevent the diff from un-locking. Locking is by applied spring force (not from the linkage to the hi/lo lever), but un-locking is from force applied by the linkage.

No light could be the globe, wiring connections, the switch or the switch height adjustment.

I would start by checking that the wires are connected to the switch.

The switch can be removed, working from underneath the vehicle.

Yep, John's on the money. I would firstly bypass the switch wires to check that the lamp illuminates. This proves the circuit and lamp work. Not sure on the Defender whether it is a globe or LED lamp. If bypassing works, unscrew the switch and you may find the sprung plunger is stuck. When this happened to me, I simply cleaned it with Brake-clean and fitted it back. When screwing back the switch, check the activation of the lamp by engaging the CDL, note there is a difference in the sensitivity of the switch from cold to hot, so you may need to re adjust to preference.

Well tonight I wrestled this fault to the ground. Found that this model does not have an adjustable switch and that it id dicked. What A MONGREL to get to. At least I discovered that the locker is working OK - was concerned that I may have been driving quite a way with it engaged. Still gotta get a new switch and do it all again.

Its time like these that I really really hate Landrovers
