Hey Folks, in the new year I'm looking at getting a dual battery setup for the rangie more than likely from Traxide. Just wanting to confirm how people have set theirs up. Is the best place for the second battery on the opposite side to the main, ie, front passenger side next to the radiator, or is there somewhere better.
I think there are 3 items that will need to be moved/relocated being the power steering lines etc, the black ball thingo (no idea what this is for) and probably the coil.
Don't have a snorkel yet, but is also on the agenda so this will need to be taken into consideration when relocating items. Will also be looking into the headlight/driving light upgrade.
Any tips/suggestions. Its going into a 1990 rangie with 3.9 V8 and auto (if that makes any difference)

Not hard to relocate those items. Should be info on here somewhere. I am using the spare pass side battery tray for my second battery through a Redarc isolator, which was an impulse buy. Works really well.
Am using HID hi /lo globes which are great. Just don't go higher than 4000K (colour) or 35 watts and know that they may not be legal in your application.

The coil can be moved back on to the guard.
The balck ball thingy - no idea what you are talking about. maybe you are talking about the air inlet horn off the airbox. Easisest solution is to put on a snorkel and change the inlet to the back of the air box.
The power steering bracket may not have to be moved depending on size of battery, but can be bent or just make upa real basic extension for the mount.
That is how my RRC was set up.
Just had a look at the picks, the black ball on these is the emission control carbon box to trap fuel. That can be relocated anywhere.

SubscriberI have managed to fit a 95AH AGM battery in my LH side by having the radiator mount reversed and rewelded, and removing the convoluted cover from the wiring in the corner. The Absorbed Power 90-95AH is the same length as a N70 but higher and is the best "amps per size" I could find.
Sure outpowers the Optima Yellow Top 55AH I had previously and has actually lasted longer at 4 years now.

Are you planning on running a winch set up, if so be carefull choosing a battery management system, i'm not sure what is available as the Traxside came highly reccomended and i just bought one, however i have some reservations with regards to winch applications with the traxide. You need to look at continuouse amp handling as the traxide sc80 is good for 40amp continuous but when running winch you will be using a lot more and your input from the alternator will be at least 70amp continuous which means the circuit breaker will be cutting in and out and so re-charge may be timely. AS i said i am not sure yet what else is available, they may all be the same, but i will be looking at changing mine if it gives me grief at rover this year.
Just do some homework, and be sure you know what you want out of the unit.
