    4.6 Twin Turbo

I am a Newb so please be patient with me.
I have a stock Rangie 4.6 and im looking for some more power.
Now my Rangie has done its best to savage my wallet every time i have taken it out so im not up for the most expensive motor RPI Engineering make, but i was considering using some small turbos say off a WRX and an intercooler that i have laying around for a DIY twin turbo meal deal... sounds tasty i know but I cant find anyone that has done it before and is it more trouble than it is worth compared to a Eaton? I want to keep the standard ECU and exhaust so not after big power but some more for the hills around home would be great.
    Any info would be appreciated.

Given the fragility of a 4.6 stock, there is no way I would turbo one.
IMHO, if you wanted to turbo , you would do it to a 3.5 where there is lots of meat around the cylinders and you would fit stepped liners . although the 4.6 has a much better bottom end, so maybe sleeve a 4.6 back.

Jaguar and Rover reduced the bore of the 4.4 to 4.2 for reliability when they supercharged it .
There is also no way that you could do it cheaply, given that the normal headroom of an injection system is about 10-15% .

It's quite feasible, though costly. The pistons, rods and crank are up to it - the weakest link in the chain is the rods (which can be relatively easily uprated for Carillos or Eagles from the US if you've got the $$$).

Would be best to top hat liner the block though, or invest in a Coscast one. Buick 300 alloy heads would get the compression ratio down to about 8:1 as they have a much larger (54cc) chamber and the dish on the 4.6 pistons is by memory around 23cc. And they can be made to flow about 30% more than the best Rover heads.

I know of a guy here in Adelaide who put a 4.6 RV8 twin turbo set up in his TR8. Went like all hell but the short wheel base/big power ensured he wrapped it round a light pole in no time. Contact TRS, I think they may have had a hand in it.

Wow, that guy has some time on his hands. Love his work though, I wonder how much he spent.
After all that frigging around with the water cooled unit a simple front mount intercooler beat it. Correct me if I've read it wrong.
I was under the impression that the water to air was a much more effecient unit.

    Thanks Traco,
I am not looking to do any internal mods on the motor.

I have seen the TR8 that you are talking about the Guy that owns TRS built that car. It is now back on the road and competed in the classic adelaide rally.

I think I may just end up using a intercooled Vortech blower at about 6-8 psi for a bit more go.
