    TD5 swap

I know of mechanic who is swapping out a S2 TD5 in a remote Desert community near the SA / NT border. This chap is the local mechanic and a Land Rover tragic, but I am uncertain whether he is right up with this ECU technology. (The old motor was destroyed pistons, turbo, vac pump ... when someone ran through a tank of petrol)

What type of obstacles - non mechancal is he likely to encounter - such as injector codes ... crank angle sensor?

When did the type of injectors change?

    Ofter forwarned is forarmed.

    Thanks, Erich

Providing he only changes the motor and not the ECU it should start. Otherwise he will have to get the ecu syncronized with the alarm ecu before he can crank the engine.

The crank sensor is the only sensor that MUST work to be able to run. If in doubt of its quality buy and fit a new one.

Although the engine should run with the wrong injector codes it will be rough. You will need to get these re-programmed to suit the injector codes for the engine you are using. It should be able to drive to somewhere else to get these done if he can't do it there. You have to take the rocker cover off to find out what these are. They are printed on the top of the injectors themselves. Once you have the codes, write them down somewhere, such as on the rocker cover for future reference.

    Thanks Ray,

I believe there were different injectors used in later TD5 engines. Are all TD5injectors compatible with all TD5 ECU's?

    Thanks, Erich

Yes, all ECU's can run all Injectors.

BUt you may end up with a reduced rev range until they are coded properly

Yes there were different injectors. From memory the later ones will go in the earlier engine but I don't know about the other way around.
