Question auto trans oil pump queries

Does anyone out there know how similar are the range rover auto gearboxes and the disco ones? My query relates to an oil leak from the oil pump in my 1998 TDI auto. I had a drive plate fracture allowing the torque converter to wobble about and therefore dumping the tranny oil all over the road.
I took the auto out (not real easy - too heavy) replaced the seal, the torque converter bearing, and had the torque converter rebuilt. Together with a second hand drive plate it all went back together.
I should say at this point that there was no obvious cracks or fractures in the pump face plate and all new seals went back.
After a marathon effort it all went back in BUT IT LEAKS (tranny fluid) - not a lot but about 1ml per km (measured by putting a plug in, driving it and then releasing the oil).
SO I'm assuming I have a crack somewhere in the oil pump housing but its difficult (in WA) to find a disco auto to source a pump from but RRs are much more plentiful - question is can I use a rangie pump?

can anyone give me some advise please?

    many thanks

Unhappy disco auto dip stick query

Ashtrans - this was sent to you as a PM but you may not be able to respond so I'm posting it as a general query as well

The auto dipstick on my TDI is always sitting free of the filler tube. In the past I've assumed it was just not put back properly and reset it but after a few kms its out again - almost like its building up pressure in the gearbox. All breathers are free and the line to and from the cooler is free!
Should I be concerned and what might be causing this?
It was occuring before my drive plate failure so I'm assuming it is not related to my oil leak problem referred to earlier.
can anyone help or advise please?

    thanks

When you put the auto in, did you fit the torque converter to the auto and then mate it all to the engine, or did you fit the torque converter to the flex plate first and then try to mount the auto over it?
    Cheers

    Hi,

this is quite common and I can't really explain why if the breather is clear,

doesn't appear to cause any problems on the ones I have heard of,

converter to gearbox and then gearbox to the car. as far as i could tell everything mated up just fine the converter wasn't bound against the drive plate and the bell housing comfortably sat up to the motor.
