Ian, I usually replace the oil pump and oil slinger/ ferrobestos bush every time I replace the 5th brgs, I agree about disassembling the pump, not a good idea:(
Timken are OE aren't they?

Hi the two R380 rear support brgs are RHP, I would replace both, the oil ring is usually Carbon in the R380 and is prone to cracking, don't know progress but do know Dave is working on a replacement made from 'fibre?' not exactly sure what matl. Regards Ian :)
we are making the FTC4991 oil feed rings from a laminate called 'Tufnol whale', the blanks are water cut then CNC turned,

this thread got me thinking, this mainshaft rear support bearing oftern fails, can we get a bigger one in there ?
this arrived today from SKF, ID is the same, OD and thickness are bigger but I think we can make it fit with a little machining in the ali housing, new on the left, genuine on the right :

this may be a useful mod for those that run a tuned TD5 or tow a lot or have a heavy overlander,
Dave
Dave, a quick Q.
On those g/boxe that come through with that bearing failed, how many do you think have been running ATF vs how many running an MTF ?
Or is it purely an overload failure ?
usually MTF94,
typically from a tuned TD5 or 2.8 TGV

Great idea Dave, keep us posted!:)
