I straightened my old bullbar by wrapping my snatch strap around a large gum, putting the tc into low and reversing.
Is there anybody out there that has had a go at diy chassis straightening? How did it go? What methods did you use?
I ask this because my recently aquired 2a has a bent front chassis section and after phoning the local smash repairers is doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get a professional to have a crack at it.
Answers like, "Yes we have the equipment but we only do insurance work"or "Yes we have the equipment but we are booked up for the next three months"
seem to be the norm. Do you think it was because I said it was a Land Rover chassis?
I was thinking of bolting it to the driveway with hilti bolts and attacking it with a bottle jack. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It took a professional company 6 weeks and just as many thousands of dollars to repair and certify a chassis I own.
Good luck, may be feasible to just get a new chassis.
any pics, we used to do all the airforce ones back when i was working the trade, chains bottel jacks couple of gas plants and a fire hose.
it can be done and you have a few options depending on how its been bent.
pics of the damage would be helpful.

I'll grab some pictures in the daylight tomorrow afternoon. Thanks guys.
OK, so I have taken some measurements and some photos.
The diagonals between rear cross member and rear of gearbox cross member are as near as damn it equal.
The diagonals between the rear of gearbox cross member and the gearbox support cross member are as near as damn it equal.
The diagonals between the gearbox support cross member and the radiator support cross member are 25mm different.
With the string line, string lies along edge of longditudinal from rear cross member to rear of gearbox cross member and ends up almost central at the front spring dumbiron.
What do I need to do to make it good again?
Thanks in advance for your help.
double check that string line at the top and bottom of the chassis.
if the chassis is twisted putting a relieving cut up near the front twisting it back and then rewelding it will be the go.
check the heights at the front hangers, if they are not the same then its had a moderate speed crash on the drivers side. Bug 2.0 did the same thing but much worse before I stripped it down and scavanged it off I also had a buckle in the rise of the FR member about where the bump stop goes.

i cant tell from the pics, but be sure your string line is only touching 2 points, 1 each end...any interference inbetween can give a false reading.
also i know the rope will work, but to be more accurate get some builders/brickies nylon line and use that, pull it really tight. you can clamp it or even drill a self tapping screw in and tie around that...
Serg
Yes the line is only touching the end two places. Yes the chassis is bent. I know the rope is wider than a chalk line but the chassis is bent by more than the width of the string!
Thing is, how can I unbend it?
