are the silicone hoses from super cheap auto any good to replace the old ones of my 200tdi defender? or would it be more wise to buy them from somewere that specialises in LR:angel:
water misters over the intercooler, waste of time. the intercooler has to be quite hot to see any benefits ( to hot for a diesel to start with) and then you have the problem of air flow changing the spray pattern, what works at 50klm turns into a water jet at 100klm etc.
water injection ( water methanol for aircraft and then its only so the water will not freeze) is great, wonderful even IF you can get it correct and that is not easy, get it wrong and you will bend some thing. doint bother you really need another computer to run it, to hard basket.
An Ice box will work really well, until the ice melts.
back in Lotus Days i had an air-con re-plumbed for a cold air charge. but with the clutch coming off on full throttle, but even that is a lot of mucking about.
just get the biggest intercooler with the most airflow as possible, simple fail safe and low maintenance.
Basil – If you have an auto then you will be disappointed with a new intercooler. The Auto has a torque sensor that will throw the engine into limp home if it sensors too much torque, witch is not much more than the ECU remap will give.
So as Tombie said the only advantage is lowering the EGTs – personally I could only see value in that for long heavy towing, as our disco is only getting the full beans for extremely short periods…. If I go back to a big trailer boat I will do it.
My car currently returns low 9s fuel consumption so how much difference will I get for $990??? Its currently remapped to the autos limit.
just remember that EU3..late 2002 td5 on intercoolers are bigger than the eairly ones.
they are thicker and have a larger cooler core. the external size is the same.
cheers phil
