    Injectors - Td5

    G'Day Folks,

Who has experienced injector problems with their Td5?

What mileage, what were the symptoms, what was the fix and how much did it cost? Are there any options to buying new injectors?

    Any input welcomed - TIA.

    Cheers,

    Franz

At 30,000K’s I did an oil test which found fuel. LR replaced the head. Then the injectors seals twice and finally they replaced the injectors which fixed the problem.

Mine is a 2001 (late) build date

When I picked up my 2003 Disco TD5 with 130k, I got the ECU upgraded.
Call it coincidence, bad luck or whatever else.
The drive home it was running rough to the point you could not see out the rear view mirror, I knew what it was straight away.
So back to the dealer, who after investigation found oil in the injector loom, then when the problem persisted, diagnosed the crook injector.
What came first? the chicken or the egg?
Second hand injector $450, new one over a grand.
The spanner bloke said injector's on TD5's failing is very rare.
Are you sure it's an injector?
I have had others issues that could feel like an injector but were electrical.
    Cheers

I think injector failure on the Td5 is one of those urban myths! They are a quality built unit by Bosch and I have never personally heard of anyone having them fail. I have heard of occasional failures but they are rare.

Im not really worried about this issue as my engine gets older.

    Lionel,

Not 100% sure but test book reveals #1 cylinder is running irregularly and it's suspected that the injector is dribbling. I'm told that they all need to come out and be tested. The engine hunts at idle but I don't notice any dropoff in performance when driving.

There's no oil in the loom at the ECU end - I've checked that.

    Cheers,

    Franz

Oil in the Harness, suspension knock, transmission clunk, engine oil leaks, exhaust manifold leaks, centrifugal oil filter stripped bolts, a/c leaks, door leaks, wouldn't trade it for the world

I don't know anymore, when my injector failed, it just dropped that cylinder and was running on four, hence the vibration.
Since replacement, no dramas, except for replacing the MAF and AAP sensor's, along with an EGR kit and silicone hoses.
    Running like clock now.
    Cheers Lionel.

Failure of a batch of TD5 injectors was fairly well documented in 2001 along with a batch of faulty heads

With the injectors it seems that a batch 'dribbled" and causes fuel contamination of the oil. When I discovered mine LR Australia had no idea and couldn't read an oil test result.

When they replaced the head I suggested they test the injectors at the same time and they didn't 18 months later and a few goes at seal replacement they replaced all 5 injectors

Where was this documented - I would be interested to research a bit more.

    TIA.

    Franz,

At the time I spent a lot of time on the UK forum and that was where it was well discussed.
