I put most electronic failures down to poor maintenance of electrical components, everyone changes there oils and filters, checks bushes and unis and other mechanical parts, BUT, do you clean and check your electrical gear and I'm talking batteries here too, as most are (so called maintenance free), do you check all your connection for fraying exposed wire, loose connection, OIL IN THE HARNESS:p

I'll bet you don't;) and today it's even more important because there's more of it too check.

Thanks again Dave for your in depth analysis.

I have one of each now. Whilst not being an expert, (read absoulte novice) I always get the feeling a electronically controlled engine is "digital" - it'll go or it won't.

However the mechanical engine is perhaps a little more "analogue" and will run poorly but keep going.

electrics dont scare me, i get scared when LR has a go at using them....they have good ideas and technology but there exicution is woefull...

on another note, is a bit easier to drain and replace all the oils in a landrover, than pull all the lining off the car to inspect the connections and wiring...

so What if you get stranded in the outback ? that's all part of the adventure ?... Just ask me :angel: ....I had an Electrical Fire in my 300tdi , but there is plenty of them good Toyota folks out there with vehicels that never break down to come to the rescue:D
