    Straightening a Sunraysia

    Gday

The other day I managed to get my hands on a slightly bent 15" Sunraysia.

My first thought was yes another rim for my BBQ project (already have two 16" Defender rims and a plough disc for the plate)

But then I thought to myself I have 4 15" Sunraysias on the Series, without a matching spare. Why not make it 5

Here's some pictures of the rim, bearing in mind it was most likely always be used as a spare

Is it possible to straighten it? and if so is there a trick to it?

    Thanks

i would tell you to use wood and a sledge hammer to carefully straighten the beed back...but.... i'll probably get flamed cos its probably illigeal...bla bla bla...

you dont want to dint the rim, so thats what the wood it for, get a nice piece of hard wood for the rim to sit under and another piece to sit on top of the bent bit and hit with sledge till straight. use a straight line to check how straight it is.

    cheers phil

What Phil said is true, it isn't something I'd reccomend doing, BUT the hardwood and hammer method is a possible fix there. I would however first spin it on a axle to check that the centre isn't distorted either. You could be belting and checking and belting etc for an hour and then find out the centre isn't true anymore...
As long as the safety bead isn't damaged and the tyre isn't leaking/ seating unevenly and it is 'straight' I can't see a problem using it for a spare.

... Purely at your own risk, of course!

We have bent them here a few times. As said knock it out with a block and run it on a hub to check its true. You may have to stick a tube in it and use as spare.
