    It's not swivel pre-load,if they are knackered it is a feeling you can't miss.Smooth at 90 and comes on at 100,sounds to me like a tyre imbalance or bent rim,when the tyres came off were the rim and hub mating surfaces cleaned up?. Pat

    The wheels and tyres are brand new!
    I'm telling you its not wheels and tyres because the problem was there BEFORE the wheels and tyres were changed.

    The problem has infact got slightly better from fitting new wheels and tryes

    I dont know if the hub was cleaned it was covered by a wheel when I picked it up

    Then the way I see it is this

    Slop & shake = Steering dampener
    Slop & shake (& vib?) = swivel preload
    Slop = Adjust steering box
    Slop & vib = Wheel bearings lost their preload
    Vib = wheel balance
    Vib = Uni joint // Remove tailshaft .. lock in CDL ... Drive to test
    Slop = worn tie rod ends

    If the tie rod joints were crook .. or the swivel bearings had collapsed ... Then they should have picked it up when doing the wheel alignment .. as they could not set up the front end properly

    If the vibration was STILL there after the new wheels were fitted ...then that counts them out

    So check all of the above ... as DisoWhite has already suggested ... With the likely suspects being ....
    Tailshaft ... (because a lift wears em out quicker & the speed 100kph matches it)
    Steering box adjustment / steering Dampener

    DiscoWhite quotes ..... if he had changed everything then there isnt anything else to change except the swivell bearings. i still maintain the swivell bearings wont cause vibes, more so tracking or pulling. when that one of mine died i shook the crap out of that side as i knew something was wrong but i didnt get any movement out of it till i dropped all the steering gear and removed the wheel.

    vides also could be tailshaft. wheel bearings wheel ballance.
    end quotes

    It just one of those deals where you have to lift the front end up and check each part separately ... then drive it around the block ... as you probably have 2 Items at fault

    I could name other areas for vibration faults ... But lets not go there yet as this is drastic thought pattern on my behalf

    thanks for your help mike...
    I'll get those things above look at.

    The most annoying things is to drive around the block each time to be able to test it at 100 I have to go on the M5 gunna cost me 3 bux every time I go through on a test

    I could tell you the story about my basically "brand new front end" that still has a "50kph vibration" that I have been chasing for the last year ... I could not describe the amount of effort of checks that I have done to get to the heart of my Vibration drama ... I have learnt to live with it

    ALL the folks that have answered "are correct" IMHO in their answers ... It is just a matter of which one applies to your scenario

    Well....I guess that rules out wheels and tyres

    I know this is very frustrating dullbird, but it can only be the wheels/tyres which are inducing the vibration to start with. Worn components (i.e. swivel bearings) may only be part of the problem. I have to agree with Pat, at 100kmh it is more likely wheels/tyres than tailshaft.

    The method of balancing a tyre makes a huge difference to vibration. It's not a simple matter of clipping a weight on the outside of a rim. Often they need weights on the inside too...

    Dullbird you have only said you replaced the tyres not the rims.Are they the original steel ones?,you only need to hit a gutter to bend them. Pat

    Your quite right pat I never and I thought I had...probably thinking of the numerous other thread where I have talked about the wheels I have.

    I haven't hit a gutter! and like said before the problem was there before new wheels and tryes were fitted

    No not original steels procomp rock crawling steels.

    so what about a bent axle or a bent tail shaft even an input/output bearing in the trans case or a pinion bearing?? all of these will cause vibrations at distince speed/rev ranges.

    if the tyres and rims have/are new and ballanced and this issue was there before they were replaced then ide say it has nothing to do with the rolling stock.
