Electric Rust Protection POLL!

in an ad i read/saw.....cant remember......
they stated that it wont stop rust........but it will slow it down......

so if you are constantly on the boat ramp for example.....instead of your vehicle rusting out after a couple of years.......
it should last pretty much twice as long......if not longer.......



but those things are for the jap models anyway.......

land rover have built in under body lubrication systems......(as stated by LRA themselves....)as we were told......its because of the salt
they use on the roads in the winter for the snow.......back in the UK.......
this system will work better than any electronic system.......

I had one fitted as an option by LR when I bought the D3 2 years ago. Provided the thing is checked at every service then LR guarantee no rust for 10 years (I think, might be 7). So whether it works or not, I hoping it'll boost my resale a tad;)

In another life I ran a business building steal panel tanks up to 10gL. We used cathodic protection on some jobs but the critical factors were the links between the panels and the system to earth.

When i worked at Soutside Land Rover we had the chap from the company that does these come and do a chat to get us to sell them on new Landies.
I asked him what they do. Being a pom who comes from a country that suffers 100 times worst rust than here , and have never heard of them before. I thought if they were that good wy weren't they in the Uk.
Anyway
He told me they put a negative charge though the chasis at all times and therefore that stops the car rusting .
I looked at him and said but the battery does that anyway . At which point he truned and walked off and would not talk to me again . So gave me the answer about it really .

Most people i know who have out these on have them on new cars which in these days should not rust for the first 5 years anyway . And most people who buy a new car change it for a newer one by then. I have had them say, i got that electronic rust thing and it is great and worth it as i have not got any rust on my 3 year old disco that you find out has spent it life just driving around Brisbane mmmmm. Land rovers are made for the salt on the roads in the uk so will not show any rust after 3 years here anyway

It works quite well - provided the vehicle is totally submerged.

This is technology developed for the protection of submarine structures such as oil production platforms. But it does not protect them above the waterline.

Land rover will fix any rust no questions asked and even if the owner has changed up to six years old anyway with out the electric thingy anyway .

It's 14 years old and has no rust! :p

:D:D:D same with my 110 thats 10 years old and has not a spot of rust on it .

Although not going to say the same for the 90 but that lived most of its life in the Uk and hence why that has some surface rust

The fact that these can be sold successfully is a reflection on the level of science education in Australia. The fact that they can be offered for sale is a reflection on the legal system!

Well they say there is a sucker born every minute. And as a salesman they are mine :)

Not sure. We have one on the Statesman. My understanding is it is supposed to slow the process not stop it all together. The Stato is only 6 yo so will see in a few years maybe, but I do not have a lot of faith in the whole protection packs offered.
May have some merit as I have seen it in industrial applications where it seems to help.
