Years ago I was stopped at a on road side roadworthy check here in Vic . I had 2 driving lights mounted on the front of a ute I was driving. They were connected to the hi beam switch only.
I was told by the officers that the lights had to be positioned closer to the main headlights:eek: and in line with them, and a switch needed to be wired in to disable the driving lights from the normal High beam.

Technically its mounted below the top bar as the brackets are underslung.
Dont think its too much of a problem as trucks all have mounts above the bar albeit some bars have a higher centre section than others and I have been pulled over for RBT and licence/vehicle checks and no ones said anything about them..... :)

The reason you were told about the switch to disable the driving lights, is that you can use the high beam in a built up area, but it is illegal to use driving lights in a built up area, in Victoria.Quote:

Regs have no doubt changed over the years since I was a roadworthy tester in Vic, but the rule then was that the centre of any auxilliary lamps must not be higher than the centre of the main headlamps, also that the auxilliary lamps must be wired such that they can only operate when high beam is on, but must be able to be switched off independently.
I have had driving lights mounted on the top of the bullbar and found them very annoying; your eye tends to follow them as you turn etc., the nuisance value outweighed the benefit. I now have a set of bull lamps mounted on my roofrack which goes on for trips, find this much better.
Well i got my old pair fixed up, re spray and cleaned them up a little. So i will have a look at SuperCheap for some brackets and chuck them on the top of the bull bar. I am interested in how much better these will make the light...but being a P plater i am more interested if they look good.
My only concern is all four lights are 170mm looms so i think maybe being bigger then the example below they might not look as good.

I don't have a link for that info, try searching for the road traffic regulations, it's in there.
They don't like driving lights in town because they are so bright, standard high beams are only 65 or 75w and most driving lights are 100w or higher.

I reckon #3 will be used as a rejection if lights are mounted on the top of the bullbar.
