Smile Hard to believe but true

I have a 1995 discovery TDI 300 that has 122000 kms & has no oil or water leaks. I purchased it about 3.5 years ago at 86000kms with a few minor oil leaks and one water leak at rear of cab. It was in exceptional all round condition. It had a rear pinion seal leak, both tranfer box output leak (not seals but seeping along splines). It was also leaking oil from the bell housing drain plug which rapidly got worse, I assumed it to be rear main but it turned out to be just the rear main bearing side seals etc. The hardest leak to stop in fact was the small amount of water leaking in the rear & comming in around the rear speakers. I have also tweaked the fuel system & and fitted relays to the headligts. The only sign of a oil leak is some dampness around the power steering inlet hose. Its a good two years since everything was put right & having owned two old classic RR & a series two in the past owning a Rover with no oil leaks is very hard to grasp. Hoping it last & gives hope to some.

They don't all leak. I've got a 92 disco 200tdi 220,000kms that doesn't have any leaks. Recently had the front diff pinion seal leaking, problem turned out to be a blocked breather.

They don't all leak if you keep at them. Should see my Rangies and 120, dry as under I hate leaky vehicles Come to think of it my series 1 used to leak has stopped. Must need more oil.
Some people just don't worry about the odd small leak here and there and wipe it off for rego.

At the moment my year 2000 japanese work car is trying to outdo my rangie for oiling the driveway.

Was my fault really, I bought a car that used to be driven by security guards.

I have a Defender very similar to yours. I got it at 70,000, and it had been serviced every 5000 by the previous 2 owners.

Mine leaks in 3 places. An oil return hose, which is sitting in the back ready to go in. A swivel seal, which I need a hand changing and a pinion seal. That only leaks because the axle has done 260,000

Now my Series I on the other hand, must be very similar to Tony's

I'm not so sure about that. I reckon if it's British and not leaking you may be driving a japanese car disguised as a LR ! Gotta be careful about these wannabees !!

I'm allowed. ex pommie, now 20 year proud naturalised aussie. Born in Solihull home of my Disco 1 (parents were not from Solihull but it was a "posh" area so they claimed it when I was born in the ambulance there).

My step grandad worked there for 30 years so I reckon I'm allowed to call it as it is. You don't have to claim they are perfect and don't leak oil to love em. They are lovely over engineered brick outhouse style vehicles that have a certain distinctive style that some of us love!!

    Well said.

My Disco has no leaks and has done 144k's.
I am a bit pedantic also but like the fact I can park somewhere and not slip on oil.
