Question Sump Stuff (swarf?) picture? What is it?

    Hi all.

Here's a pic of what was in my sump (TD5). Looks like swarf (there was more) but could it be part of a thrust washer or something? Any ideas please. Engine running fine, all "seems" O.K.

One side is rough, with a "chattered" appearance, one is smooth. It is quite hard and snaps when I try to bend it flat, suggesting when it was formed into a helix it was hot.

    Odd and disturbing!!

It's about 10mm "wide", and very thin, less than .25mm, easy to crush between fingers.

Head has been replaced at dealers.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Looks like alloy swarf from machining work...

Not good, but I wouldnt be too worried about it... Too large to have gone into a bearing...

Probably went straight to the sump when filled with oil...

    Not good though!

    Question Good!

That's what I want to hear, keep it coming guys! It will be a first for the Landy to have a minor worry turn out to be.. a minor worry! And not a busted head gasket, or snapped flex plate, or...

Machine tool swarf. Surprised that this is still happening today. Definitely sloppy manufacturing.

Is it Ferrous (sticks to a magnet) or is it alloy, too big to get into oil system, if it's Ferrous check the camshaft, Regards Frank.
