Wind Up

Do this.

Jack up one wheel, front or back. Chock wheels still on ground to prevent rolling. Take handbrake off.

Leave cross axle lockers in the unlock position.
Leave centre difflock in the unlock position.

You should be able to rotate the raised wheel by hand. If you can't it means the centre diff is still locked or broken.

If you can rotate the wheel, reach in and move the centre difflock lever to the locked position. You should actually hear the mechanism in the transfer case operate.

Now try to rotate the raised wheel. You should not be able to.

If anything else happens you have a problem...

From what has been said here i need to lift one front wheel and one rear wheel to see what is happening. Am i correct here.
If the both shafts turn in the same direction its locked if they don't it's unlocked???:confused::confused::confused::confused ::confused:

Yea, one of each, but they "may" turn the same way as there is little other resistance

The other thing you can do, is jack both up on the front or rear, cause it may well be a front or rear diff damaged (doubtfull with lockers) and drag your ass underneath and turn the tailshaft, if it spins free and the opposite doesn't, centre diff is unlocked, if it turn a partial turn then stops, the centre diff is locked

Thanks. Have the right rear and front right up know. Both shafts are turning anti clockwise and the cdl should be in neutral.
I have worked in a timber mill for 20yrs and poking fun is tame so go for it as long as i get some tips in the process i'm happy:D:D:p:p

Stick wacker hey?:p I only worked in the local mill for 3 years:D

Sounds like its still locked, you need to bend both your elbows on one arm, and play with the engageing bit on the front snout of the transfer case, to make sure its turning correctly

O.K i have the front right wheel jacked up when the little stick is in neutral i can not move it and the same in any other position. I am starting to see where you guy's are coming from.

Yep, still locked then, and you know for sure your front diff isn;t locked yea? if I remember you pulled it out to check?

So you need to check the actuatiing bits of the centre diff, before you head to the innards of the transfer

Just another check after the actuator bits, drop the oil and check for shiny pretty metallic stuff;)

JC has messaged me and it seems i will take the transfer out and replace itm with the one from the shed then pull this one apart to see how it works. A bit of a bugger but JC said i can take the front shaft out and keep driving for know.

I had to replace my transfer case a few years ago after an auto sparky killed mine.

He jacked up the rear wheels and ran it up through the gears chasing an electrical fault.

The centre diff gears welded themselves to the cross shaft and then broke the shaft.

He didn't tell me and I drove it home. I picked up that it was driving oddly and it made bad crunching noises when I turned in the drive (tight turn).

The next day I tried the jack one wheel thing and it was all locked up.
It wasn't until I pulled it out and dismantled the centre diff section that I found the fault.

The sparky paid for the new (second hand) transfer case, all oils and labour to fix...

Brett,

That was as long as it is just that broken spring I mentioned, or a linkage fault. If the diff gears are destroyed then I wouldn't drive it in 2wd either. Sorry, should've mentioned that:angel:
