Defender TD5 Alternator
Hi guys
Any suggestions for an (good quality) aftermarket alternater for the Defender?
Maybe there are upgraded moels on the market.
Are there any repair kits available for the original factory unit?
Thanks for your help

Pretty sure the TD5 Alt had an integrated vacume pump so you may struggle to find an aftermarket one.
What are your symptoms on the current one ? I if is just noisy bearings then it shouldn't be a big job to replace them.
Any decent auto electrician should be able to do a a full overhaul, unless there is significant mechanical damage to the main housing.

Thanks for your reply
There is nothing wrong with the alternator.
I just want to make sure it's working OK before the next big trip...
cheers

I don't know if the TD5's have a habit of eating altenators..
. Maybe put it in for a set of bearings and brushes before you head off, if it is an area of concern.

From experience,
don't rebuild the TD5 alternator, buy a new one.
They aren't that expensive and ones that have been rebuilt have a very short lifespan.

Check out the Baxter website for their offerings and then do the price comparisons. You could be surprised. And I think it's a Nippondenso alternator, so there's a chance that there will be a TOY,,,A bit that an elec tech will track down.
