    It broke

    Hi
2002 D2 with 250000 on the clock. My wife said the car lost power while coming home. Just got home to look it, the sump has a large amount of diesel in it, when it starts it has a large cloud of white smoke. When tha ignition is turned on b4 starting the pump in the fuel tank is very noisey. I assume the injectors are not shutting of when the motor is shut down, filling the cylinders and running down to the sump. the question is what would cause this and the loss of power when driving. Any help would be apreciated.
    thanks, Peter

Do you check the engine oil level regularly? If not then theis might have been a gradual problem until now.
The injector seals can leak & cause this but then so can a cracked head.

I haven't heard of injectors being held open before & I suspect this could cause a hydraulic lock on starting rather than simply blowing smoke while it's running.

Drain the sump, refill with fresh oil & monitor the level if you can't see anything obvious wrong.

White smoke is usualy unburt diesel.
Be carefull with what you do.
Turn it by hand if you can to make sure it's not going to 'lock up'.
I also had fuel in the sump but with some outher dramas.

    Good luck!

    Cheers.

    Peter,

My guess is that 1 or more injector sealing washers have failed. I hope it hasn't been like this for long as the oil becomes less of a lubricant when diluted to this extent and can cause failure of the turbo bearings among other things The screaming pump leads me to think the fuel is airated and that is what can happen when a sealing washer goes, the combustion gasses end up in the fuel system.
