    Fitting a reverse / work light to a 2001 TD5 Discovery

    Hello all,

Wondering if anyone can help me out. I am wanting to fit a narva worklight to the roof rail of the D2. I have laid the electrical cable from the front of the car to the back and need to get a local auto sparky to wire it up for me. I have extended roof rails so no problem getting the wire to the light without looking messy.

What I need to know is can I have a 3 way switch wired up so the on / off / on is - On only in reverse gear, off and on independantly (for camping etc).

Paraburdoo is a bit limited with Land Rover experience so any help would be appreciated. A mechanic in Tom Price (the nearest town 80km away) said that and Discovery built after 1996 could not have this done because of some funny wiring that Land Rover use.

    Any truth or solutions please.

    Simon

    load of crap.

    mate,

if you wire the reverse as a set of spot light using a relay. and then a direct battery feed for the other side of the light. very easy.

I just had a look at the D2 wiring diagram and there doesn't seem to be anything special about the reversing light circuit. However, I don't know why there is a feed to the interior mirror when reverse is selected.

Maybe it un-dims the auto dimming mirror when you select Reverse?

easy to do. Find and auto leccy with a brain first.

Ron the reason the wire is fed from the reverse lights for the mirror is supposedly to turn the mirror lights off in reverse. the mirror light earths through the reverse lights (same concept as the alternator excite light on early alternators)

When I conected the Aux. batt. via a switch to my L/h rev.lamp I fitted a diode ($3 I think).
Rear wiper also works if rev. selected with front wipers on.

I would think if you used a three way switch and ran the light relay off the center conector(normaly power), you should be ale to run rev. pick up off on side and Aux. power off the outher.

Just have to make the sparky think out side the square.

    Cheers Kyle.

Thanks for your replies, I don't have the dimming mirror so should be easier.

Ahh. I didn't realise there are lights in a D2 mirror. I don't own one.
