Someone feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

To my knowledge the main difference in the diesel R380 boxes is shifter and input shaft length, with a different style alloy rear housing to accomodate different shifter according to vehicle type. To my knowledge everything else is physically the same. I know some ratios are different.

Having looked at the rave CD for the R380 in Defer, Disco and Rangie. You could source the new cheaper box and swap the rear housing with your old one. Which will give you your correct shifter length/ location etc.

If you are doing the removal and refit yourself, you would have no trouble swapping this over. Of course you have to swap the oil pump over to have everything new.

    R380 - Isuzu

From memory youll need a R380 from a V8 if your going to run it behind an Isuzu. LT85 bellhousing modded to R380. first motion shaft on V8 box is the same as LT85 & 95 boxes. If I,m wrong pls correct me.

PS 4K for a reco is way too much. Be very wary

hmm ok - I didn't think that there were any V8 defenders in au

I've been looking at a Td5 R380.. (to get the later bearings etc) I would prefer not to have to get the shift mechanism from a defender box and fit it to a disco r380........

Sorry I run a V8 disco box. I suppose you could run what you like if you build your own bellhousing.

    Just a thought

I'm going to get BOR to mate me half an LT85 and half an R380 bell housing.
