salisbury diff into 2a

the salisbury diff is out of series3 into early 2a both 109 1 a ute 1 a troopy, when the diff went into the 2a neither tail shaft fit i thought all where interchangerble,or is being a factory 4 or 6cyl somthingto do with it, is there another way rather than to get one shortend; any help would be great. just new to posting if dun somthing wrong let me know.

Because the Salisbury is larger than the rover diff, the flange is further forward, which is why your 2A shaft is now too long. The Series 3 shaft wont fit if the donor was a 6 cyl.

If the 2A is a 4 cyl, you will need a shaft from a 4cyl LWB Series 3 - FWD in Brisbane sell these brand new for about $250.

You will also be able to get it shortened and balanced at any driveshaft shop for less than this, just given them the measurement from the transfer output flange to front of the diff flange.

My experience was that it was considerably more!

thanks for that,it clears up some of the problems i got with the job.and thanks for the tip on the new shafts only wish i had done me homework before swaping diffs.

I have shortened my own tail shafts here. With care they can be rebalanced with hose clamps to get you out of trouble for a wile.

I am sure you are aware that legally this must be done in a workshop approved for the purpose!

Yes..... Same applies for the home made temporary drag link and steering shaft in my power steer 45 series. Is all Off road only

I had my new drive shaft shortened (same idea - a Salisbury into a s11a SW

for around $45 at a recognised drive shaft works. No other problems.
Benefits of change: bigger drums, power assist, plus the better diff.

That was around five years ago. Still got the beast. Thirsty but very handy.
