Hi Guys
was just wondering ..l saw this on another forum and was just wondering if some of you could enlighten me ....
Ive never seen a twisted tail shaft before the only one Ive seen are at the joint ...was just wondering how much force would it actually take to cause this to be literary twisted in two before the joint would give way?...and would there have been existing damage to cause this to happen so easily
cheers

I'll second that. IT also happens if they goof the weld on the tube and introduce a thin spot in the metal.

the pic from the gold coast club is my bro's rangie there was no damage before this happened , just plenty of pedal and a bit of wheel skip and their you have it , we where very shocked it was the tail shaft and the maxi drive as we found the maxis brake under little pressure.
Maxi Drives don't break under little pressure. You actually have to abuse them to break them. I saw the Vid of you blokes going at that rock face, and that can be easily considered abuse. Airborne rear end with 35's and plenty of right foot on solid rock, wouldn't be surprised if your brother also has a twisted axle as well.
Must admit it's very entertaining to watch, keep up the good work![]()
problem is every time a maxi broke it was driving into ormeau , didn't even get time to do anything , facts are broken maxi $2500.00 of paper Waite . Fact. talk to most comp driver they have all broken them that is the reason they run nissan diffs . If you go hard enough you will brake anything , don't be mislead they are a great diff if you only have light mods and don't do any major comps
I have seen tailshafts in heavy trucks twisted like a licorice stick. Usually does lots of $$$ ancillary damage. Lots of weight, lots of grunt and crawler gears. Once had a customer with an 8V92TA, RT12510 Road Ranger, Spicer 1241C air-shift auxiliary trans. who twisted up the intermediate shaft between the two trannys. Had a custom built heavy duty one made against recommendations. Then found out why the trans. manufacturers specified the weaker one. It was the fusible link. Next time out with a big swinger on he busted the ass end out of the Road Ranger.
