    Unrecognisable metallic noise

Hi Its being a while since my last post but I continue to have a persistent noise that now appears to come on start up on some take offs and on shutdown of engine. It definitely sounds metallic but has a similar pitch to slipping drive belts, yet it has new belts new pulleys and the mechanic said that the belt tensioner was ok.

    Any ideas??

Pretty sure its not a loose metallic component it sounds like a bearing on the way out my question has anyone experienced a torque converter (TC) or bearing failure in the vicinity the sound comes when I power up on takeoff I have to take it easy it also occurs on steep hills.

I had a look for loose brackets or other components could not see any, although there was some oil drops forming on the TC shroud.

All the pulley's were replaces? If not, then could still be belts - I've heard that the grooves in the pulleys pick up dirt and tend to slip slightly on startup and shut down. Perhaps take a belt off and see what happens when you start and turn it off.

If it's any consolation my TD5 Defender makes exactly the same sound.

Not sure if you'd hear this at start up, but at shut down you can hear the high speed centrifugal oil filter spinning down on a TD5. Maybe that's just 'touching' and making the noise....

    Just a thought
