    If it's any consolation my TD5 Defender makes exactly the same sound.
    I heard the belt noise before and it comes form the front not below where the hi low gear selector is. it bugs me to no end and I dread a long haul and being stranded somewhere I am planning am couple of outings the first one rather short to Byron, the other slightly longer.

    She is going for a service soon and get my mechanics opinion.

    The reason I asked is to see if there is something I could do without too much fuzz

    Discowhite had a similar sound I recall, dunno if he ever sorted it, PM him or wait for him to show up.
